Menos, now clad in a red tee and jeans, is lying on the floor, gasping for air. One hand is clutching his belly, the other is pointing at his brother that stands in the doorway of the mall’s changing room.
—Mira, hermano, ¡no me rías!— Más shouted. —¿Cómo parezco? Los zapatos me hacen más alto.
“Hahahahahahaha!” answered his twin, still laughing.
—¡Hermano, en serio!— Más is indignant, but he should have expected such a reaction considering the circumstances; he was wearing a Mexican sombrero, red stilletos, and… a strawberry costume… so massive that it swallowed the little boy’s entire form, making it blob-like and unrecognizable.
It’s Memorial Day weekend, and Starfire was currently hopping from store to store for the perfect gifts for her friends. Little to her knowledge, gifts were not distributed on this specific holiday, but most of Titans West didn’t have the heart to break the news to her, nor the news that they knew that she was out to get presents. So, here she was in the mall searching for multiple presents.
The ginger smiled as she found a men’s clothing store. Perhaps, she could find something for Beast Boy or Robin from there! She quickly rushed into the store, heading straight towards the young men’s section of the store, before bumping into two boys. “I am sorry,” She started as she stepped back and looked over to the boys. They looked familiar to someone, but who? “Please, we met before, perhaps?”
Menos’s laughter turns into a high-pitched shriek, and Más immediately recoils in horror, trying to use his arms to cover up his ridiculous clothing. Thoroughly embarrassed, the strawberry darts into the changing room to find a more suitable shirt to wear. Meanwhile a bewildered Menos stares up at his crush with his mouth hanging open, unable to find the words. He angrily wishes his brother hadn’t ditched him…
Speaking in Yiddish was only going to confuse her more. ”St-tarfire,” Menos stutters, and flashes an awkward, toothy grin.
The princess blinked and tilted her head in confusion. Why did the two seem so scared? “Hello!” Starfire greeted, before before giving Menos a worried, yet confused look. “Please, your friend is all right, yes?” She asked as she gestured towards the door to the changing room that Mas had disappeared to. “He seemed quite startled.”
Who did these two boys remind her of? Perhaps, two people she had seen in the mall earlier? Or two people from Tamaran? Two Titans, per- Mas and Menos?! The princess gave an even more confused expression. Perhaps, they are related? Or maybe they just look similar to the two young titans. The latter notion did make more sense, so the Tamaranean decided it to be true and shrugged the matter off.
Menos nodded vigorously to indicate his answer. Under normal circumstances he would have gladly told her what had happened, just to humiliate Más more, but this Yiddish problem was preventing that from happening, and was seriously getting old.
Interrupting the awkward silence was Más, dressed in his birthday suit instead of the strawberry suit. He sprinted to one of the clothing racks, frantically searching for something. Menos immediately caught on; his brother probably took off the strawberry costume and then realized that he had no clothes to change into.
Menos couldn’t do it. His hands covered his mouth but did nothing to stop the giggles from passing through. The source of the sound, caused Más to jerk his head to look at Starfire… He let out a tiny squeak of horror - which made Menos laugh harder - but Más could not budge from his awkward position.
Starfire looked over to find the source of the squeak. Is someone in peril? She thought before locating the source of the squeak. Upon locating Más, the Tamaranean’s cheeks burned red, and her eyes widened in embarrassment. She quickly turned her head towards the exit of the store, trying to find a safe place to leave her focus.
Cheeks still as red as her ginger hair, Starfire directed her eyes to the floor. “Per- um- Perhaps, I-uh-” She stammered, her eyes still fixed on a specific speck on the third tile away from her on the store’s floor. “Sh-should take my leave. Y-yes, I believe now, I shall take my leave.” She said, as she placed one of her hands next to her eyes closest to Más in order to limit her eye sight range and started towards the exit of the store.
Espere un momento, Menos wanted to communicate, but all that came out of his mouth was a “Tsuvartn!”
Más snapped out of his trance, grabbed some random clothes from the rack, and ran back into the changing room. The situation probably - actually, definitely would have been better if he had just stayed in the strawberry.
—¡Espere, Starfire, puedo explicar!— he yelled as he threw on a shirt and pants as quickly as he could, hoping to explain everything to her before she would never talk to them again.
